What we do

Home Energy West Yorkshire is here to offer impartial, free advice from dedicated energy experts. We can also help you find trusted contractors and get any available funding to help towards the cost of energy efficiency improvements.

Why we’re here to help

Wakefield has 45,500 homes, with a mix of detached, semi-detached, terraces and flats. 27,800 homes have an Energy Performance Certificate rating below C, meaning they fall short of Government targets for energy performance. Around 7,700 households are in fuel poverty and 30,100 would need to spend over 10% of their income to stay warm. If you own, rent or are in social housing – you can benefit from free, impartial advice from our energy experts, get help accessing any available funding and find installers you can trust.

Building types

Around 22% of homes in Wakefield are detached or semi-detached. 62% of people own their homes, 15% rent from private landlords and 22% are social tenants. The West Yorkshire region as a whole has more homes built before 1919 than the national average, and these are usually harder to insulate and improve. West Yorkshire has the second highest level of fuel poverty in England, with almost 27% of households struggling to afford heating and energy costs, compared to 20% across England. These high figures and the old age of the properties show why making homes warmer, more energy efficient and cheaper to run is a real priority.
