Why we’re here to help

Bradford is a vibrant and diverse region with a rich industrial heritage and traditional Victorian architecture. From Manningham to Keighley, Shipley to Tong, we are working together with Bradford City Council and our social housing partners to make energy saving improvements to all kinds of homes. If you own, rent or are in social housing – you can benefit from free, impartial advice from our energy experts, get help accessing any available funding and find installers you can trust.

We’re busy saving Bradford residents’ money

The Bradford Area Based Scheme, delivered by our partner, Incommunities, is focused on improving 28 terraced homes that were built before 1900. These houses have solid stone construction, room-in-roof configurations and compact floor plans. Every home in the scheme has benefited from new external wall insulation which has helped to make homes warmer and lower people’s bills. The scheme, covering Chellow Grange and Daughton, is supported by grant funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority with a total project cost of around £1.5 million and a grant award of up to £826,880.

Building types

There are around 210,000 homes in Bradford district with a mix of private and social housing. Over 36% are semi-detached houses or bungalows. 33% of people live in terraced housing, 15% in detached properties and 12% live in flats. Almost 79% of homes have gas central heating and just 0.1% heat their homes with renewable energy. Bradford has an ageing housing stock, with over a third of homes built before 1919 and there are a large number of back-to-back older properties in areas of fuel poverty. These are the homes that can benefit most from expert energy saving advice and improvements.
