A life-changing Bradford success story
For Julie in Bradford, getting new insulation not only made her home toasty and warm, it literally changed her life.
Julie, a resident of Blackshaw Drive in Bradford, has lived in her social housing home for 37 years. Like many people, she struggled with keeping her home warm during the winter. But thanks to new external wall installation, she is now much more comfortable in her home – and she’s saving money every month. She invited Tracy Brabin, the Mayor of West Yorkshire, and the Government’s former Energy Minister, Miatta Fahnbulleh, to see the difference.
“Before the work, it was so cold and draughty the blinds would move inside. I had to go to bed in a dressing gown to keep warm. There was no insulation at all,” Julie explained.
Julie was able to get free improvements to her home through the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund. This is a Government-backed scheme which aims to improve the energy efficiency of social housing across the country. It helps to make homes warmer, cheaper to run and more comfortable with improvements such as insulation and low-carbon heating systems.
