Introduction
West Yorkshire Combined Authority is helping housing associations and councils across the region to make their homes warmer and cheaper to run through the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund and the Social Housing Enabling Fund. Residents who are offered these improvements will not have to pay for the work and the coldest homes are the priority.
What upgrades are included?
If your home is eligible, you could receive free energy saving upgrades like better insulation, new heating systems or solar panels. You might get one or more different measures and the work carried out might be different to your neighbours. It’s chosen very carefully based on your individual home and circumstances.
What’s next?
The funding targets the least energy efficient homes first and the criteria is very strict so not everyone will qualify for the funding.
Your housing association or council will contact you if your home is chosen for upgrades. If you are offered these improvements, they will make your home warmer and could save you money in the long run. You can speak to your housing officer for any support during the process, they’ll be happy to help you understand the work and reduce the disruption to you as much as possible.
In most cases the homes have been chosen, but the works will continue until 2028 so you might not have heard yet. If you would like to know if you qualify for the upgrades, contact your housing provider and they will be able to help you.
