Through Home Energy West Yorkshire, we want to help people across our region enjoy warmer homes while lowering their energy bills and emissions. This will not only help to reduce fuel poverty, it will also help to create new jobs and supply chains to boost our regional economy.
Home Energy West Yorkshire supports the Government’s and West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s commitment to tackling the climate and energy crisis.
Homes in West Yorkshire are responsible for around 30% of the region’s total carbon emissions. The need to upgrade our homes and stop our dependence on fossil fuels is essential if we are to meet our 2038 net zero target. To do it, we will need to upgrade 100% of social and 50% of private homes, install 569 megawatts of rooftop solar panels, fit 835,000 heat pumps and connect 205,000 homes to heat networks and stop relying on gas for heating our homes.

Mayoral pledge
In 2024, the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin made an electoral pledge to begin a programme to insulate every social home in West Yorkshire. With around 20% of local homes being socially rented, this work is already well underway working with the West Yorkshire Housing Partnership. Through Home Energy West Yorkshire, we are not only delivering on this pledge but also helping private renters and homeowners make energy-efficient upgrades.
The West Yorkshire Climate and Environment Plan
The plan is a joint effort by West Yorkshire’s councils and the Combined Authority to tackle climate change and protect the environment. It sets out five key areas of work to help us reach net zero by 2038. One of those is a promise that everyone in West Yorkshire should be able to live in a warm, comfortable and low carbon home. By following the plan, we can improve housing quality, cut energy bills, and build a more sustainable future.
